By late afternoon you will reach your new destination
where a campsite and the dinner meal is prepared
and served by our expert staff.
Evenings tend to be lively occasions and might
include a night of entertainment by some of the
porters and guides singing their local tribal songs
while his friends improvise musical instruments.
Some evening finds clients and guides just having
a lively campfire discussion while watching the
moonrise over the silhouettes of the Himalayas.
Early morning, a hand stretches out to greet you
with a hot mug of tea followed by hot water for
a wash. Cooked breakfast is served and off you go
again to your new destination and a new day’s
adventure.
Who will lead my trek?
Sunshine Himalayan Adventures has mature and trained
leaders who belong to the region where you are trekking
or have lived there for long part of their life.
All leaders are trained in first aid and group dynamics.
One appreciate's both our foreign leaders and the
educated locals who give you the opportunity to
interact and discover more about the area you are
exploring.
Will I get sick?
The health, hygiene, safety and comfort of SHA’s
clients are our prime concern. We provide basic
medical assistance. A doctor at all entry points
in India will take care of minor complaints if you
have any during your stay. SHA carries comprehensive
medical kits in case of emergency. Our expert cooks
provide hygienically prepared high quality meals.
Is the country politically stable and safe?
India is one of the largest democratic countries
in the world. Although on occasion, disturbances
occur in some parts of the country, the sheer largeness
of the country means this rarely effects the daily
life of the residents in other parts. Life moves
on as usual, unperturbed. The areas where SHA operates
have been some of the most peaceful and happy areas
of India including the States of Himachal, Pradesh,
Utteranchal and Ladakh, which all are well known
for their tourism-friendly ambience.
Are the trails crowded?
There is so much to see in India that all tourists
who go there get distributed and move out to different
parts of the country in their search of new destinations.
For those who choose the Himalayas, get further
disintegrated and move out to the enormous variety
of treks and climbs available with Sunshine. As
such you may find no other foreigners apart from
your group for days on end. At the peak season,
you may probably see some other trekkers. Even then
there will be far less people than you would see
on a normal walking trail at home.
Should
I purchase a lot of expensive gear to go on a trek?
Sunshine Himalayan Adventures provides some of
the most expensive items – sleeping mats,
tents, cooking gear, any climbing gear, etc..
You have to provide the other personal clothing
items you need, your own sleeping bag, day pack
and a pack that can hold up to 70 lbs that will
be carried by a porter on the trek. This will
involve some expense, although you will be amazed,
by how much use you will be able to make out of
clothing you already own. Please see our checklist
of things to bring and preparations that need
to be done do before you commit to a trekking
or touring adventure with us in India. (a link
to checklist)
What photographic equipment should I take?
Himalayan treks offer a wealth of photographic
possibilities and carrying a little extra photography
equipment can be worth its weight. Single reflex
cameras with interchangeable lenses are most suitable
for the situations that you will encounter. Lenses
should include a wide angle (28-35 mm) for buildings
and landscapes, a tele-photo (70-200 mm) for un-obtrusive
portraits and close-ups of mountain peaks. A macro
lens will help you photograph flowers of Himalaya.
Carry plenty of film as you will probably end
up taking more photographs than you planned (a
roll a day should suffice). Make sure you have
waterproof covering for your camera, equipment
and extra batteries. You will need an ultra violet
and polarizing filter for high altitudes.
Will I get altitude sickness?
It depends from person to person, while one may
get sick at a lower altitude, the other might
not get affected even at a much higher altitude.
SHA normally carefully plan your tour in stages
to make you acclimatize during the trip. Leaders
keep a personal check and take all possible precautions.
In case of a problem, however, you should inform
your group leaders. Some previous clients recommend
taking anti-altitude sickness medication during
the higher altitudes we encounter. Please see
our Checklist for more information on anti-altitude
sickness medication and other recommended preventive
medications, vaccinations and remedies.
What type of food is served on a trek?
Normally hot meals are served all along the trip,
though at times packed lunches may be given when
distances between stops do not permit cooking.
A variety of Indian, Chinese and continental dishes
are prepared with fresh meat and vegetables. A
typical one-week menu might look like this: (Add

What about overnight accommodation?
Whenever possible, we possible we prefer to organize
stays in countryside hotels or rest houses. For
the major part of the treks, the accommodation
will tend to be in tents on a twin sharing basis.
Bathroom and sanitation facilities are improvised
and made as comfortable as possible.
What’s a Jeep Safari?
A Jeep Safari is a mix of culture and adventure.
These trips involve visiting remote villages,
monasteries to experience the remote culture and
people of the region as you pass through the rugged
train of the Himalayas. Jeeps accommodating a
maximum of two guests are used to organize these
tours. The guests are taken to remote destinations,
which do not always provide the best of comforts
and even lack basic facilities like good roads,
electricity and hotels. Hence, every possible
arrangement is made to make the trip as comfortable
as possible. A cook and a guide always accompany
the guests to set up camp, cook hygienic &
hot meals and take good care of your needs.
Basic accommodation is available providing facilities
like attached toilets, cozy rooms and hot water.
Camping at a scenic spot or near a water source
is done where accommodation is not available.
The guests visit remote villages, meet tribal
people and witness lifestyles and see sites that
have barely changed in centuries. These tribal
people living in the remote areas of the Indian
Himalayas bear a cultural similarity to the people
of Leh and Tibet.
